Reserving a tentative performance date at a venue before the date is officially confirmed. Artists or agents will place holds with multiple venues in order to find the best deals and routing when planning out a run of shows or an entire tour. Holds are usually taken by the venue on a first-come-first served basis, with the first hold taking precedent over subsequent holds.
